Commencement: March 2026 Locally Engaged Staff Based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea Open to PNG citizens only About the Program The Australia – Papua New Guinea Economic Partnership (APEP) is a multi-sectoral investment which commenced in April 2022 and runs through Feb 2028 with the possibility of a two-year extension. APEP is delivered as part of the broader PNGAus Partnership which brings strong alignment and integration with Government of PNG (GoPNG) and Government of Australia (GoA) development priorities. APEP is also a primary vehicle and coordination point from which Australia delivers its economic development support to PNG. APEP works collaboratively with other Australian investments and development partners, to deliver impactful and sustainable development outcomes across four key engagement areas: EOPO 1 - Safeguarding Macroeconomic Stability EOPO 2 - Supporting More Efficient and Inclusive Markets EOPO 3 - Fostering Inclusive Agricultural Growth and Expanded Livelihoods EOPO 4 - Catalysing Economic Research and Dialogue Gender equality, disability social inclusion (GEDSI), women’s economic empowerment, and climate resilience are central to APEP and integrated across all engagement areas and activities About the Opportunity The Communications Specialist provides high level communications support to the program and is responsible for delivering key communications products and public diplomacy materials and facilitating communications training. Key responsibilities Support the implementation of the APEP Communication Strategy, workstream and cross cutting strategies as they arise, including producing strategic communications and public diplomacy materials. Work closely with all members of the Communications Team to create innovative and impactful communications products. Work closely with the APEP workstreams to proactively identify upcoming events and public diplomacy opportunities, and plan and develop communications products that demonstrate the impact of APEP’s activities. Gather, draft and produce high quality, impactful content about APEP activities to demonstrate Australia’s contribution to PNG. Deliver content in a range of formats including media releases, social media and website content, short videos and talking points. Engage with the Australian High Commission’s Economics and Public Diplomacy teams including attending contractor meetings and forums. Provide communications support for events including launches, seminars, conferences, workshops and other key APEP communication activities. Manage the delivery of multimedia packages including engaging with photographers/videographers to plan, develop and deliver multimedia content. Manage the production and printing of communications materials including flyers, factsheets, manuals, reports, banners and other content. Undertake procurement within Abt guidelines. Develop and facilitate communications guidance for subcontractors and delivery partners to ensure compliance with Australian High Commission clearance process and branding requirements. Manage the partnership brand in line with DFAT guidelines. Contribute to other communications activities as required, including reporting, producing meeting minutes and contributing to internal newsletters. Provide any other support as required. Key deliverables High-quality communications plans and products are delivered on time and in line with DFAT’s expectations. Qualifications Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism, development, social science, or another discipline. Knowledge Demonstrated understanding of social and traditional media trends, PNG media landscape, development sector, understanding of Australian Government’s partnership with PNG Skills/Experience Demonstrated experience (7-10 years desirable) in delivering communications strategies, products and activities for large, complex programs. Experience in international development would be an asset. Experience in creative communications, photography, videography, content writing and managing external communications and activities. Excellent verbal and written communications skills demonstrated through experience writing and editing for different media and audiences. Experience providing technical communications advice to other functions and external partners/subcontractors. Experience using Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and Mailchimp. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of team. Demonstrated commitment to GEDSI, climate and safeguarding as key cross-cutting issues for APEP.
