JOB DESCRIPTION

The Communications Specialist champions the work of Apple Seeds by gathering, crafting, and sharing authentic stories from the farm and community through social media, newsletters, website, presentations, photography, graphics, and marketing materials. This role ensures Brand consistency, manages communications strategy and execution, and supports fundraising, events, and outreach to engage diverse audiences and grow community awareness and support.
Reporting to the Development Officer, the Communications Specialist creates and executes an annual communications plan, maintains brand standards, manages the constituent database, and develops compelling content that strengthens relationships with donors, partners, and media.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 years minimum experience in communications, marketing, or related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, website CMS (Squarespace preferred), and design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
  • Experience managing databases and creating reports (Bloomerang or similar preferred).
  • Basic photography and video skills. Strong eye for graphic design.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Commitment to Apple Seeds’ mission and values. Comfort representing the organization in public settings.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as brand ambassador, ensuring consistent identity across all materials and platforms.
  • Manage social media, monthly newsletter, website updates, event announcements, communications calendar, and track metrics for growth and engagement.
  • Design and produce marketing collateral, sponsorship packages, campaign materials, stewardship pieces and manage vendor relationships and purchases of marketing materials.
  • Execute fundraising campaigns, such as Giving Tuesday, as well as manage automated campaigns.
  • Maintain a photo library; lead collection and organization of program, event, and farm photography.
  • Enter and acknowledge gifts, as well as manage stewardship and mailing projects using Bloomerang database.
  • Maintain and organize database records, including tours, interactions, and volunteer/school forms.
  • Provide tech, communications and promotional support for Kitchen Table Dinners, fundraisers, tours and community events.
  • Write and submit grant proposals as assigned.
  • Participate in organization-wide initiatives, professional development, and cross-team support.
