Job title: Communications Specialist
Department: Marketing & Communications
Reports to: Chief Communications Officer
Dedicated hours: 40 hours/week

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field.
  • Five-to-seven years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the mission of Creighton Prep and Jesuit education environments are a plus.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead projects collaboratively.
  • An understanding of marketing and communications best practices.
  • Experience with major social media platforms (Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc.).
  • Photography, image and video editing, and graphic design skills.
  • Creative writing portfolio with strong samples of work a plus.
  • Experience with or knowledge of:
  • Finalsite (website and content management system)
  • Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge
  • Canva
  • Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Gmail, Chat, Calendar, Sheets, Forms, Slides)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and other related software
  • Proven organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing training and professional development
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Comfortable with multitasking in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with appropriate internal and external stakeholders, write, edit and update a wide variety of content including:
  • Website content
  • Creighton Prep Magazine articles
  • Prep Pulse e-newsletter (for alumni)
  • The Prepped Parent e-newsletter (for current parents)
  • High School Office emails and forms
  • AMDG Fund letters and emails
  • BASH fundraiser communications (emails, letters, invitations)
  • Social media content (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.)
  • Honoree bios for events such as the Loyola Dinner and Athletic Hall of Fame
  • Online event registration forms (e.g., BASH, Loyola Dinner, Alumni Memorial Mass, Mother-Son Mass and Breakfast andFather-Son Mass and Breakfast)
  • Capture photos and videos at assigned events and edit content as needed.
  • Help uphold and enforce Creighton Prep’s brand and graphic identity standards in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the communications needs of the Head of School and Academic department, including:
  • Writing email announcements and important updates for parents
  • Proofing and scheduling emails
  • Updating the website
  • Support public relations initiatives, including:
  • Media opportunity preparation and follow-up
  • Ghostwritten articles
  • Letters from the Office of the President
  • Event-related and awards-related communications
  • Assist with specific BASH-related responsibilities, including:
  • Proofreading the catalog
  • Writing and editing auction item descriptions
  • Supporting student and volunteer communications
  • Organizing content for the BidPal auction system
  • Reviewing correspondence
  • Drafting scripts for the emcee and president
  • Help create and manage a communications planning calendar for Advancement initiatives, including:
  • Correspondence for BASH, AMDG Fund, events, alumni reunions/gatherings
  • Creighton Prep Magazine, Pre-Annual Report, Annual Report
  • Prep Pulse (monthly) and Prepped Parent (weekly) emails
  • Social media schedule
  • Website news and highlights
  • Proof and edit other internal and external marketing and communications materials as assigned.
  • Keep all communication projects up to date within the Communications team’s Notion project management platform.
  • Work with the Chief Communications Officer and Vice President of Advancement to develop benchmarks and assessments for communications efforts across digital and print platforms, including email, website, Creighton Prep Magazine, Annual Report and social media. Use Google Analytics and other tools to guide data-informed decisions.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding donor information and uphold departmental policies regarding sensitive material.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Communications Officer
