ABOUT THE POSITION

External Relations is currently seeking a dynamic and result-driven individual to join our team as a permanent, full-time Communications Specialist (Engagement).
The Communications Specialist (Engagement) supports the development and implementation of SkilledTradesBC’s communications and engagement plans, projects and initiatives, with a focus on stakeholder relations.
With an understanding the organization’s strategic priorities and operating environment, the Specialist provides communications and engagement services to enable organizational performance, support exceptional customer service, enhance the organization’s reputation with partners and stakeholders, promote the value of skilled trades and apprenticeships and maintain public trust.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A post-secondary degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field is preferred. Training or certification from the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) is an asset
  • Minimum of 5+ years relevant, recent professional experience and understanding of marketing, communications and engagement principles, strategies and techniques
  • Proven experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic marketing, communications and engagement plans to support business objectives
  • Development of compelling, accessible copy and supporting communications and engagement collateral is necessary
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and coordinating meetings, and events to advance engagement with organizational initiatives
  • Understanding of government/public sector communications and engagement environment would be an asset
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in an appropriate manner while displaying a high degree of judgement and discretion
  • Experience in relationship-building within complex and diverse multi-stakeholder environments
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to research, prioritize and coordinate projects or initiatives
  • Experience in digital communications strategy and channel management, with working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant communications and engagement tools and technology is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365
  • Experience in First Nations engagement/Indigenous cultural competency and knowledge of B.C.’s trades training and apprenticeship system is an asset

Responsibilities

Stakeholder Relations and Engagement

  • Supports the strategy set by department leaders by developing and implementing strategic engagement plans and activities, including but not limited to the development of related presentations and other communications collateral, coordination and facilitation of engagement activities, and analysis, evaluation and reporting of outcomes
  • Plans and coordinates the organization’s Sector Advisory Group meetings and supports other relationship management activities
  • Supports the coordination of industry enquiry direction and response

Marketing and Communications

  • Supports the strategy set by department leaders by developing and implementing strategic communications plans and campaigns
  • Develops objectives and metrics to track success/key performance indicators of campaigns with support from department leaders
  • Acts as the file lead and project manager for major marketing and communications initiatives
  • Writes and edits communications materials such as media releases, newsletters, speeches, video scripts, briefing documents, presentations and Q&As, etc.

Partnership and Program Management

  • Develops key relationships with other departments, provides recommendations for communications and engagement tactics to support business objectives
  • Monitors and understands emerging issues to inform communications and engagement tactics
  • Develops and coordinates corporate programs and in-person/virtual events
  • Manages supplier/contractor relationships
