As the Communications Specialist, you’ll bring Jackson County's mission to life through strategic messaging, eye-catching design, and impactful marketing. From everyday health promotion to urgent risk communications during public health events, your work will inform, engage, and protect our community. What You’ll Do Develop and execute a data-driven communications and marketing strategy Create compelling digital and print content (social media, graphics, video, campaigns, reports) Serve as backup spokesperson and Public Information Officer Lead risk communication planning for public health emergencies Build and strengthen the JACOHD brand across online and offline platforms Partner with internal programs and external organizations on outreach and education Ensure communications are culturally and linguistically appropriate Track performance, prepare reports, and support strategic planning efforts Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with all policies Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university with one to two years experience in communications, marketing, or closely related field. Working Knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects, Premier Pro, and other Adobe Creative Suite software. Ability to assess critical and complex situations and give analytical solutions. Interpersonal communications, group process and facilitation skills. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Demonstrates ability to present information to large audiences. Demonstrates computer use ability in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. Demonstrates ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on assignments with a minimal amount of direction. Demonstrates ability to write, edit, and design superior news, feature, promotional, and report content. Demonstrates experience developing communications plans and executing marketing communications tactics across all channels (e.g. print, digital, web, electronic, social, in-person). Demonstrates experience creating and manipulating graphics. Demonstrates experience creating content for social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in public health, communications, marketing, or related field Experience in public health communications, PIO roles, or accreditation/quality improvement work Ready to Make an Impact?
