Job Description:
Job Summary:
As a Communications Specialist, you’ll bring creativity to life by developing impactful campaigns and content for The Salvation Army. From crafting stories and marketing materials to exploring design, videography, and visual assets, you’ll play a hands-on role in shaping how we inspire and connect with our communities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Champion our brand by driving creative marketing initiatives that strengthen The Salvation Army’s voice in communities.
  • Bring stories to life through articles, videos, reports, social media, and other content that inspire and engage.
  • Keep communications sharp and accessible by managing calendars, editing, proofreading, and curating high-quality images.
  • Shine a spotlight on impact by coordinating interviews, photos, and narratives that connect with new and diverse audiences.
  • Be the voice of The Salvation Army online—managing social channels, sparking conversations, and building community support.
  • Create meaningful campaigns tied to awareness days, events, and partnerships, ensuring content is timely and impactful.
  • Use data to make a difference by monitoring performance, analyzing results, and recommending fresh approaches.
  • Collaborate on creative projects from concept to delivery, providing event coverage and dynamic multimedia content.
  • Protect and strengthen our brand by managing creative assets, equipment, and release forms with care and compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, Marketing, or other related discipline.
  • You have three (3) to five (5) years related public relations/writing/communications/web/social media experience in an organizational setting, with previous non-profit experience an asset.
  • You have a strong grasp of social media best practices and can creatively manage multiple accounts with accuracy.
  • You’re a natural storyteller who knows how to engage audiences using different formats and tactics.
  • You understand SEO and web traffic metrics, using them to make content more impactful.
  • You’re comfortable with tools like Microsoft Office, WordPress, and Hootsuite—and you learn new applications quickly.
  • You have excellent writing skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging content for both print and digital.
  • You’re an effective communicator who shines in both written and verbal interactions.
  • You’re highly organized, analytical, and able to juggle multiple projects while solving problems on the go.
  • You thrive in a team setting, adapt easily to shifting priorities, and deliver under tight deadlines.
  • You bring positivity, initiative, and a solutions-focused mindset to every challenge.
  • You share and support The Salvation Army’s mission, vision, and values, with flexibility to travel or work outside regular hours when needed.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $55,693.49 to $69,616.86 with a maximum of $83,540.23.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
