POSITION OVERVIEW

Craftsbury Saplings Community Children’s Center seeks an organized, efficient, and creative chef to prepare daily meals for up to 28 people, including staff and students aged 15 months to 5 years. This opening is for either a Planning & Preparation Chef or a Preparation-Only Chef. You will work with teachers to provide meals that engage children in food preparation and meet the dietary needs of students and staff. A great candidate will be excited about bringing local food and gardening projects into the classroom while preparing delicious meals.

Requirements *Saplings will support the right candidate in obtaining the necessary credentials.

  • Organization and attention to efficiency
  • Knowledge of food preparation practices and cooking methods
  • Participate in mandatory program and kitchen-related training and stay up to date on annual training needs
  • Local food system knowledge is preferred
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and pay close attention to details
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a Federal Background Chec

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - PREP ONLY

  • Prepare healthy and delicious meals daily (2 snacks and lunch)
  • Maintain kitchen space and records up to standards aligned with the Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Perform daily and monthly kitchen and meal-related cleaning tasks
  • Maintain documentation in compliance with the Child and Adult Food Program

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS FOOD MANAGER

  • Plan menus that align with the Federal Child and Adult Food Program
  • Manage budgeting and purchasing for all food and kitchen-related equipment and supplies
