ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

The North Vancouver Island PCI Health Society and its employees are committed to a proactive holistic approach to health and wellness, and to the delivery of primary care services which are sustainable and honour the customs and traditions of First Nations communities located in the North Vancouver Island: Da’naxda’xw First Nation, Dzawada’enuxw First Nation, Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw First Nations, Gwawaenuk Tribe, Kwakiutl First Nation, Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis First Nation, Mamalilikulla First Nation, ‘Namgis First Nation, Quatsino First Nation, and T’łatłasik’wala’la First Nation

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS

· Current registration as a pharmacist with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
· Current valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license and willingness to submit a drivers abstract.
· Vulnerable Sector Check will be required.

EXPERIENCE

· Three years recent, relevant patient care experience, ideally in a team-based primary care setting or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
· Experience working with First Nations people and communities, providing pharmacy services which integrate holistic Indigenous approaches is an asset.
· Care coordination experience within a multi-disciplinary team and including external partners is an asset.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge and understanding of cultural humility and the history of colonization and its impact on health and wellness of Indigenous people and communities
  • · An understanding of rural and remote communities and their inherent challenges and barriers.
  • · Knowledge of the pharmacology and therapeutic classification of drugs.
  • · Knowledge/awareness of traditional medicines an asset.
  • · Knowledge of the therapeutic management of various diseases.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Ability to teach patients and others both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Ability to integrate best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.
  • Knowledge and experience in policy development related to medication management
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary team
  • Working knowledge of First Nations Health Benefits
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, the public, medical staff and members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written, computer communication means.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, set objectives and establish priorities.
  • Ability to manage time and resources, implement activities to promote cooperation among the interprofessional team and collaboration across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to creative plan for change and innovation, implementation of policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of patient care.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Electronic Health/Medical Records and Windows based programs.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Understanding of own intersectionality, power, privilege, and how these concepts may impact own work with clients.

    Pay: $52.00-$62.86 per hour
    Expected hours: 35 per week
