The Office of the Hon. Karina Gould, Member of Parliament for Burlington, is currently accepting applications for the full time in-person position of Community Engagement and Communications Officer for her Constituency office.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional judgment and interpersonal skills, and ability to exercise diplomacy when interacting with the public and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of current events and the political and parliamentary environment. Deep interest in Canadian politics and awareness of current global issues.
  • Ability to research, analyze and synthesize complex findings within a short time frame.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team is a necessity.
  • Familiarity with programs run by the federal government.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Microsoft Teams, and other virtual meeting platforms.
  • Willingness to work some flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Previous Constituency or Parliament Hill experience.
  • Strong local knowledge of the Burlington riding.
  • French language proficiency would be considered an asset.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working in an office setting providing communications and administrative support.
  • University degree or post-secondary education from a recognized institution in communications, journalism, political science, or a related field, combined with experience in communications involving large projects and working with senior management OR an acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communications strategy and branding. This includes the development, coordination and production of all communications products of the MP in collaboration with the Member and other staff, including, but not limited to: the parliamentary website, social media, advertisements, annual calendar contest, mail items and newsletters.
  • Creates and manages content for the Member’s Facebook, Instagram and other social media accounts. Understands digital trends to engage with audiences where they are.
  • Captures digital (photo, video) content at community events and meetings for use in external communications products (social media, website, mail products, etc.)
  • Develops timely communication materials, such as press releases, quotes, media advisories and formal remarks.
  • Develops an advertising strategy. Prepares and coordinates advertising in local media.
  • Manages the Member’s agenda, reviews and discusses commitments, schedules meetings and community events and informs the Member of any changes.
  • Organizes and participates in meetings and events such as Town Halls, round tables, summits, meetings, and constituency events with/on behalf of the MP as required.
  • Establishes and builds relationships with all relevant community stakeholders and maintains an effective database.
  • Ensures that preparation of notes and follow-ups from Town Halls, neighbourhood check-ups, other meetings and community events are completed promptly.
  • Drafts and delivers written greetings from MP for local events and celebrations.
  • Primary contact for organizations and groups to provide information on relevant federal funding opportunities and government programs.
  • Primary contact for event volunteers.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with Ministerial support staff.
  • Drafts correspondence to Ministers and stakeholders as required.
  • Develops in collaboration with the MP and other staff, the execution of the annual communications/outreach plan.
  • Organizes and facilitates Karina Gould’s Youth Council.
  • Supports, as needed, the other constituency staff with general reception duties and casework.
  • Maintains database concerning all constituent contact utilizing CRM software.
