POSITION SUMMARY

Kelowna’s Gospel Mission (KGM) is a faith-based, non-profit organization dedicated to restoring hope and dignity to those in need. Guided by compassion and a servant’s heart, we provide essential services like emergency shelters, outreach programs, a dental clinic, a vibrant thrift store, and transitional housing. By ministering to the whole person—spirit, soul, and body—we create a community rooted in faith and love. Discover more about our mission and impact at www.kelownagospelmission.ca.
The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital, people-centred role in fostering connection, compassion, and capacity both within the shelter and across the broader community. With a focus on advocacy, enrichment programming, and direct spiritual and emotional support, this position is ideal for someone with strong facilitation skills, a heart for inclusion, and a deep understanding of trauma-informed care and community systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of meaningful activities that promote wellness, community connection, and personal development for residents;
  • Working closely with employees and community partners, ensuring that activities reflect the needs and interests of residents while supporting overall shelter goals;
  • Participate in delivering, developing, and administrating advocacy workshops focused on building capacity in the business community to engage compassionately with vulnerable individuals, reduce stigma, and foster practical, service-oriented responses;
  • Collaborate with communication employees and community partners to expand the number of workshops delivered annually, while collecting feedback from participants and partners to evaluate impact and improve content;
  • Conduct regular connections with residents and provide care through listening, empathizing, encouraging, and connecting individuals with Spiritual and/or mental health care and supports;
  • Develop a quarterly activity calendar, promote participation within the shelter, and build a volunteer base to support the delivery of activities and learning opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills (including public speaking), with the ability to clearly convey information both verbally and in writing to promote collaboration and team cohesion;
  • Experience facilitating group activities in community, shelter, or support service settings;
  • Experience managing multiple programs simultaneously, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and circumstances in a dynamic environment;
  • Familiarity with local service systems, referral processes, and business engagement;
  • Deep understanding of homelessness, substance use, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and mental health challenges;
  • Degree in social work, human services, a related field and/or equivalent experience working in frontline human services or community advocacy;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Teams, and other relevant platforms, for efficient documentation, data analysis, and collaboration;
  • Valid driver’s license, a clean driving abstract and a reliable vehicle (mileage paid);
  • This position is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector).

This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some evening and weekend work required depending on programming. Benefits are available after six months of employment. This is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the Kelowna community, and we look forward to hearing from you!
