Community Engagement Coordinator
Classification: Full time, Permanent

The Tŝilhqot’in National Government is based in Williams Lake, British Columbia serving six communities, including ʔEsdilagh, Tl’etinqox, Tl’esqox, Tŝideldel, Xeni Gwet’in, and Yuneŝit’in. The Tŝilhqot’in National Government’s mission is to support and empower Tŝilhqot’in peoples to exercise their rights to self-determination within their traditional territories in ways which reflect Tŝilhqot’in philosophy, values, experience and culture.
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating engagement activities and managing internal information to facilitate collaboration and engagement with Tŝilhqot’in members. The Community Engagement Coordinator also supports TNG departments in preparation for engagement activities (forums, meetings, shared meals, open houses, etc. )

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide opportunities for regular updates to members and to Chief and Councils in each community about TNG matters
  • Support departments in scheduling community meetings or activities, preparing materials, and reviewing content for readability
  • Research and promote diverse and unique ways to engage Tŝilhqot’in members
  • Assist with Nation event planning and execution
  • Track attendance and collect community feedback/metrics for each event, meeting, or activity and supply it to the appropriate department with follow-up minutes or notes
  • Make sure adequate supplies of materials, such as gifts, gift cards, and swag, are maintained for all community engagement activities
  • Work with the communications team to implement communications strategies
  • Maintain tracking lists for community engagement efforts and email lists
  • Draft and design documents, newsletters, posters, letters, presentations, public notices etc. to educate and inform members
  • Support with social media, Nation App, and media relations as directed
  • Additional duties as required

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, with preference for a post-secondary education within an Arts field or at least two years working in a fast-paced environment within communications
  • Strong verbal and writing communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Strong attention-to-detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and willingness to learn new computer programs
  • Knowledge of how social media works and ability to post written and video content to the TNG’s social media platforms
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about Tŝilhqot’in Nation endeavors
  • Accountable, dependable and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong interest in First Nations current events
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle

Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and additional hardware
  • Overtime as required
  • Lifting or moving up to 20lbs may be required
