Description

Are you passionate about building community, supporting families, and promoting culturally safe, inclusive, and responsive programs? The North End Parent Resource Centre is seeking a Community Family Peer Support Coordinator.
Overview
The Community Family Peer Support Coordinator is responsible for coordinating community-led initiatives that promote community connection, cultural pride, strengthen community capacity and resilience among families and youth. This includes planning, facilitating, and evaluating community-based, low-barrier activities focused on outreach, engagement, skill development, and relationship building.
The coordinator supports and supervises Volunteer Peer Advocates, collaborates with community partners, and ensures culturally safe and inclusive practices are integrated into all aspects of the program.
Key Responsibilities

Program Planning & Delivery

  • Design and deliver accessible, culturally appropriate community-based activities.

Community Engagement

  • Identify and address community needs through regular consultation and collaboration.

Volunteer Peer Advocate Coordination

  • Recruit, train, and support a team of Volunteer Peer Advocates with lived experience.

Community Engagement

  • Mobilize, connect and develop partnerships with Elders, youth, families, and local organizations and Businesses.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Monitor participation, document outcomes, and report on key program indicators.

Equity, Diversity, and Cultural Safety

  • Ensures culturally safe and inclusive practices are integrated into all aspects of the program.

Qualifications

  • Lived experience in navigating systems and/or providing community support is considered a strong asset.
  • Related post-secondary education (e.g., social work, community development) is an asset but not required.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and facilitation skills.
  • Experience in volunteer coordination, peer mentorship, and/or program evaluation.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, particularly African Nova Scotian, immigrant/newcomer communities, Indigenous, Acadian, 2SLGBTQ+.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and community-based approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and meaningful relationships with children, youth, families, and service providers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, and communication applications such as WhatsApp.
  • Current Class 5 Driver’s License
