Barnardo’s is committed to providing ‘Better Outcomes for More Children’. Our children’s services volunteers help the charity to deliver essential services in local communities, providing support to over 300,000 children, young people and their families. This role provides a great opportunity to join our fantastic children’s services and help make a real difference. Our community hubs are a place where any member of the community can seek advice and support on a range of topics. As a community hub helper, you’ll be a welcoming and friendly face at our community hubs. You’ll support children, young people, families, and other community members to feel at home, take part in group activities, and get the most out of the space. There are a range of tasks you can get involved with, from meeting and greeting visitors, setting up meeting spaces, supporting or delivering group sessions, restocking the community café and much more. Your help will contribute to creating an inclusive, vibrant and supportive environment for everyone. Based at St Paul C Of E Church on Victoria Avenue, The Blackley Community Hub is a place where any member of the community can gain advice and support around a wide range of topics. We are proud to be working with a number of organisations and agencies to deliver much needed support that research has shown us hasn’t been accessible to the Blackley community. On Wellbeing Wednesdays, we have a range of groups offering emotional support, craft, activities and exercise throughout the day. On Thursdays we host a drop-in session where people can access food and practical support for a range of issues including finance and housing. We have a community café with free refreshments and a free hot lunch on offer on Thursdays. We’re looking for a friendly, community-minded person to help us run our hub on Wednesdays from 9am to 5pm. You’ll be welcoming people, helping them join in with group activities, and working with staff and volunteers to keep things running smoothly. If you’re interested, there’s also a chance to help plan and run workshops with the people who come to the hub. Some other tasks include talking to partners and volunteers, helping out at meetings, keeping the café area stocked with drinks and snacks, and taking part in training when needed. We also ask that you support the values of the church where the hub is based. We’re also looking for a volunteer to help on Thursdays from 11am to 2:30pm. This role includes picking up flyers from E-Act Blackley School once a month, putting out a sign in front of the hub, welcoming people, making tea and coffee, helping with a food delivery (The Bread and Butter Thing), and folding tables away after the session. Both roles are important and help make the hub a safe, welcoming place for everyone.
We are looking for volunteers to provide a friendly and welcoming face at our community hubs.
