COMMUNITY LEARNING (ESOL) VOLUNTEERING – HELP ADULTS FROM REFUGEE BACKGROUNDS BUILD CONFIDENCE IN ENGLISH

Location: Battersea, London
Time: 1 session a week (term time) * Minimum: 6 months
Programme: Community Learning (ESOL) – Katherine Low Settlement
ESOL volunteering with KLS is hands-on and human. You suppor t adults to practise everyday English in small, friendly groups. No teaching experience needed — you bring patience, clear communication, and respect.

Pick a session that fits your week

  • Walk & Talk — Weds 12:30–2:30pm

Gentle walk with guided conversation.

  • Art for All — Weds 10:00–12:00pm

Simple creative tasks that prompt speaking and listening.

  • Conversation Club — Tues 12:30–2:30pm * Fri 10:00–12:00pm

Themed discussions over tea.

  • Parent & Child Literacy (Early Words Together) — Tues 10:00–12:00pm

Songs, stories and early literacy activities for parents and toddlers.

  • Reading & Writing Development — Mon 12:30–2:30pm * Thurs 10:00–12:00pm

Everyday reading, spelling and short practical writing.

What you’ll do

  • Support small groups with speaking, listening, reading and simple writing.
  • Keep conversations moving; model clear, slow English.
  • Encourage quieter learners to have a go.
  • Work alongside tutors and other volunteers.

What you’ll get

  • KLS Volunteer Induction before you start.
