CLASSIFICATION: Community Mental Health Nurse, Permanent, part-time

HOURS: 0.8 FTE. All sites.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be registered with the RPNAS or the SRNA.
    • Level C, Basic Cardiac Life Support.
    • P.A.R.T. Certificate preferred.
    • Prefer a minimum of 5 years’ experience in clinical mental health nursing.
    • Able to work independently as well as work as a team member.
    • Knowledge of mental health across the life cycle.
    • Understanding of the impact of mental illness on the client, family and community.
    • Knowledge and compatibility with CHSA policy.
    • Understanding of Health Promotion initiatives in Mental Health.
    • Knowledge of the Nursing Process and interventions appropriate to Mental Health,
    including Suicide Risk Assessment.
    • A working knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act and related legislation.
    • Requires initiative and judgment to plan, implement, and modify treatment programs
    according to needs of individual clients and families.
    • Must be bondable.
    • Valid driver’s license and vehicle required.
    • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and collaborative communication skills and attitude.

Responsibilities
  • To provide professional mental health service and programs for an outpatient caseload

working in close association with others in the interdisciplinary team.

  • To provide assessments and counselling
  • To establish and implement effective treatment plans for individuals who experience a

disturbance in psychosocial functioning.

  • To facilitate treatment program continuity by observing and assessing individuals’ response

to treatment and implementing recommendations.

  • To arrange for prescription renewals and may include the direct administration of

prescription medication.

  • To work with clients to facilitate reintegration to the community systems (e.g. family, society

and vocational environment).

  • To provide emergency call duty to your own caseload when available.
  • Will have significant contact with other community resources.
  • To provide meaningful educational service to other health care workers, community

agencies and the public.
