Job Description:
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Operations/Programming
- Conducts initial intake of all Family Service clients, assesses client needs and provides services to meet client needs or refers clients to other appropriate community agencies.
- Responsible for pre-established food donation pickups, including altering the pickup schedule as necessitated by statutory holidays.
- Ensures inventory of foodstuffs is maintained according to best before dates and expiry dates.
- Maintains monthly inventory control processes according to pre-established levels.
- Distributes/disposes of food past best before dates according to Food Banks Canada Guidelines for Distributing Food Past the Best before date and local ministry Unit policy.
- Place food bank inventory orders with approved suppliers as necessary to maintain inventory at predetermined levels.
- Ensures appropriate decanting of bulk food donations into predetermined volumes for distribution to clients.
- Assign and coordinate work of Family service Volunteers as directed by Corps/Community Ministries Officer.
- Assist in the development and coordination of Family Services related programs such as School Backpack program and Family service Christmas programs.
- Attend community meetings on behalf of Family Services program as directed.
Administration
- Maintain accurate records of food bank refrigerator and freezer temperatures and reports any issues to Corps/Community Ministries Officer.
- Maintain accurate records of client and participant information on Link2Feed
- Maintain accurate records of the weight all food bank related donations and purchases coming into family services and distributed or discarded.
- Prepare/provide family service statistical reports according to report type and frequency determined by Corps/Community Ministries Officer.
- Maintain a list of other Community agency services to assist with appropriate client referral to meet identified client needs.
Health and Safety
- Ensures proper cleaning of food bank areas according to predetermined schedules.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other position related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications
- Completion of a Community College Diploma in Social Service Worker or equivalent in related field.
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Must provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) year of prior related experience, including experience working with multi-barriered persons, individuals with mental health issues a variety of social service programs. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of Food Bank operations and willingness to learn more.
- Safe Food Handling Certification is required within the probationary period.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills, such as using basic word processing and email programs. The incumbent will be expected to learn computer applications associated with the position according to time frames established by the Corps Officer.
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
- Lead by example, by demonstrating a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, integrity, and adaptability.
- Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
- Respect and work effectively with individuals of diverse culture, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $19.93 to $24.91 with a maximum of $29.89.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
