Description

Our client, The Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB), provides comprehensive food assistance and programming to support our community. Beyond addressing immediate hunger, they focus on equitable and sustainable food distribution, nutrition education, and wellness resources. Their programs are designed to serve all individuals, with special initiatives that support children, seniors, infants, pregnant mothers, and individuals with specialized dietary needs.
We are seeking a Community Programs Coordinator to oversee two key programs: Food for Thought (school meal program) and More Than Food (workshops, resources, and client navigation).
The Community Programs Coordinator will play a key role in both programs, overseeing their development, delivery, and evaluation. This dynamic position will act as a support role to the Program Lead and blends hands-on operational leadership with administrative and strategic responsibilities. The Coordinator will manage volunteers, coordinate logistics, oversee meal preparation and program setup, track data, prepare reports, and build partnerships. The successful candidate will remain calm and composed on busy program days, bringing strong organizational skills, clear communication, and a proactive approach to ensure programs run smoothly while empowering clients and supporting their long-term well-being.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years’ experience in program coordination, community services, or social services is required;
  • Degree in social work, community development, public health, or a related field is considered an asset;
  • Strong administrative skills, including Excel, data tracking, and report preparation;
  • Proficiency in Mailchimp and Canva is considered an asset;
  • Previous experience managing or supporting volunteers;
  • Comfortable with hands-on physical work, including lifting up to 40 lbs and early morning start times;
  • Calm, flexible, and adaptable in fast-paced or changing environments;
  • Knowledge of food insecurity, poverty reduction, and community resources;
  • Empathy and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse clients, including those in crisis;
  • Flexibility for occasional evenings or weekends (time off in lieu provided);
  • A valid driver’s license, clean driving abstract, and reliable vehicle are required.
    Please note: Due to the nature of the role, candidates will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check under the BC Criminal Records Review Act, including screening for work with vulnerable populations.
    This role requires flexibility, with regular daytime hours, as well as early mornings, evenings, or weekends to support program delivery, workshops, or special events. This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the Central Okanagan by ensuring children are nourished for learning and families are supported with tools and resources for long-term stability. This onsite position in Kelowna, BC offers $24–26 per hour and the chance to be part of a collaborative, fun, and supportive team where open communication and flexibility are valued every day.
