Description
Description The Community and Residential Advocate provides comprehensive, trauma-informed services to survivors of sexual violence, stalking, and/or intimate partner violence across campus, shelter, and community settings. This position supports survivors through hotline response, in-person crisis intervention, advocacy, safety planning, and facilitation of support groups. The Advocate will continue to collaborate with campus partners and community systems on an as-needed basis, assisting in identifying service gaps, improving response systems, and increasing awareness of Title IX and Clery Act protections for student survivors when campus services request support. This position will be the primary advocate for human trafficking, Title IX, hospital advocacy, those geographically isolated, and other underserved populations. The Advocate will also serve as support to the court and provide outreach services, acting as a direct support group care facilitator. Job Functions: Provides direct, confidential, and timely supportive services to survivors and secondary survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and/or stalking. Includes a 24-hour crisis hotline, in-person crisis intervention, hospital advocacy, court advocacy, individualized safety planning, follow-ups, resources, information, and other needed services, as well as education and outreach. Facilitate support groups at Safe Haven and in the community as needed. Collaborate with the Education and Outreach Advocate to promote support groups, facilitate curriculum, and raise awareness. Provide as-needed campus-based support, including outreach presentations, participation in Title IX-related meetings, and confidential advocacy for students, serving as a liaison between survivors and campus or community systems. Understand and adhere to Title IX and Clery Act guidelines to ensure compliance and client safety. Serve as the primary advocate for survivors of sex and labor trafficking, providing trauma-informed support, safety planning, crisis intervention, and assistance navigating legal, medical, and social service systems. Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners and participate in outreach, education, and task force efforts to strengthen the community’s response to human trafficking. Serve as the primary advocate for those geographically isolated, and other underserved populations—including but not limited to elderly individuals, Amish, deaf and hard of hearing individuals, and those with limited English proficiency, ensuring equitable access to services and supports. Provide hospital advocacy for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking, offering emotional support, information on rights and options, and coordination of follow-up services during medical forensic exams. Distribute and collect client outcome surveys and document in Osnium in a timely manner. Educate survivors about their rights and resources, including VINE registration and Victims of Crime Compensation. Maintain a library of materials for survivors in coordination with Safe Haven Case Manager(s) and Outreach staff. Demonstrate cultural responsiveness, including knowledge of how to use Language Line or video phones for LEP/Deaf/Hard of Hearing clients. Maintain accurate, timely documentation of services, outreach, and case activity. Participate in relevant trainings, team meetings, and community coordination efforts. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or agency leadership. Job Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in social services, liberal arts, or related field preferred. Experience working with survivors of sexual violence, stalking, and/or intimate partner violence preferred. Strong understanding of Title IX, the Clery Act, and trauma-informed care. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and relate to diverse populations. Reliable transportation, valid Ohio driver’s license, and personal liability insurance. Must pass a background check. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Unusual Working Conditions: Flexible work hours may include occasional evenings or weekends. Travel is required to attend events, presentations, and conferences.
