JOB OVERVIEW

The Community Resource Connector is part of the Red Deer Public Schools Community Liaison Worker (CLW) program. This program is an early intervention/prevention service for children and families identified as being “at risk” or vulnerable to problems (e.g. mental, social, emotional, and spiritual).
The Community Resource Connector is a resource to the Community Liaison Workers who are engaged with Indigenous families in our community. This is not a case management position.

EXPERIENCE:

Post-secondary education relevant to the position.
Experience relevant to the position.
Minimum of 1 year working in community outreach.
Ability to effectively interact with diverse groups.
Current training and certification in Aboriginal Awareness, Suicide Prevention, and First Aid/CPR.
Current criminal record check and child intervention check.
Intermediate computer skills.
Valid driver’s license.
Reliable vehicle.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week

Responsibilities
  • Share information about Red Deer Native Friendship Society programs and services with identified schools
  • Provide culturally appropriate resources and contact details as requested by Red Deer Public Schools
  • Promote and support Indigenous cultural events and programming in schools
  • Submit monthly reports detailing activities and contacts to the Director of Programs at Red Deer Native Friendship Society
  • Collaborate with community Elders and attend local events involving Red Deer Native Friendship Society
  • Maintain regular communication with outreach school principals, Community Liaison Worker team coordinators, and Indigenous education team leaders
  • Offer guidance and referrals to Community Liaison Workers and other school staff
  • Organize and advertise Sharing Circles at the Outreach School and ensure student awareness and participation
  • Attend scheduled meetings related to the Community Liaison Worker program
  • Refer staff to appropriate Indigenous and non-Indigenous community agencies for further support
  • Participate in High Risk Youth Coalition meetings and represent the organization at community tables
  • Be a consistent presence and resource at designated schools
