Job Title: Community Safety Assistant
Reports to: Community Safety Coordinator
FLSA Code: Part-time, Non-exempt
Hours: Up to 25-hours/week; occasional weekends and evening hours as needed
Program Area: Violence Prevention (VP)
Location: Hybrid; when onsite, at the Men’s Center, 402 N. St. Louis Ave, Chicago, IL 60624

POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Assistant will provide critical administrative, coordination, and communication support to the Community Safety Coordinator. This role helps ensure the smooth implementation of community-based strategies that aim to reduce firearm violence and promote public safety. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about community healing, equity, and justice.

  • West Garfield Park (WGP) community resident
  • Knowledge of WGP and the ability to relate and engage with residents
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, professionalism and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and follow through and be comfortable working in a changing environment.
  • Demonstrates willingness to consistently improve work performance through their relationship and guidance.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Prior to the first day of work, must complete a criminal background and sex offender clearance.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS

  • Administrative Support
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings with grantees, stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, take notes, and distribute follow-up communications.
  • Maintain organized filing systems (digital and physical) for program documentation, contracts, and reports.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

  • Help with special projects and initiatives aligned with community violence prevention and public safety goals.
