The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Job Summary Community Service Agents (CSA) are responsible for working with the Governance Affairs Manager to advance Community Relations. This includes community cleanups to ease the burden on the City of Kingston's waste management services, public services activities, student canvasing for safety initiatives, and lastly is helping the GAM in City Relation Summaries of policy. CSAs will not be regularly scheduled, but instead will work only on the days following events that often require cleanup or community initiatives, such as Homecoming, Halloween, St Patrick’s, or Orientation Week. Job Competencies Communication Organization Ownership Attention to Detail Job Duties Complete regular Community Cleanups around key dates (Homecoming, St. Patrick’s Day etc.) Attend all training sessions to become familiar with the department and adhere to the general operations of the department Complete all assigned tasks efficiently and attentively Respect and adhere to all procedures, policies and ethical standards Maintain timely communication with direct supervisor Attend and fully participate in all in person and virtual meetings Strive to foster a warm, comfortable and respectful atmosphere for coworkers Always serve as a representative of the AMS and its mission statement Complete other duties as assigned Job Requirements Ability to self-delegate, set expectations and monitor progress of all different assignments Sound analytical thinking, planning, and prioritization skills Working Conditions Flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holiday Ability to be available on days following Homecoming, St. Patrick’s, and Orientation Week.
