Community Service Worker Canada Summer Job 2026 Shelters - Hyland House, Bill Reid Place (HH, BRP) Temporary Full Time Posting Date: Location: Wage: Hours of Work: Closing Date: April 8, 2026 Surrey, BC $22.00 per hour (subject to funding model) 35 Hours per week May 8, 2026 Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community. POSITION OVERVIEW Ready to make an impact in community service? Join us as a Community Service Worker! Help empower residents by providing support and strategies to gain skills for securing accommodation and maintaining independence. Work alongside staff and residents to create a safe, supportive environment and achieve meaningful goals. Reporting to the Program Manager, the selected candidate will conduct regular wellness checks on shelter residents, assist with facility maintenance, and manage laundry tasks as needed. They will answer phones, providing information or assistance to callers, and respond promptly to emergency situations while following established protocols. The candidate will collaborate with staff and residents to implement strategies for achieving designated goals and provide temporary emergency care and support to residents in need. QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate has previous experience in a similar role or a background in social services, as well as knowledge of homelessness issues and an understanding of trauma-informed care. Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude are essential. Knowledge of community resources and support services. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team. Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively and basic computer skills for data entry and communication purposes. This is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Qualified candidates must be: * Aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job; * Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and * Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent Resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
