Description
Description Since 1984, Asheville Humane Society has dedicated itself to ensuring every animal has the quality of life they deserve—a life worth living. Now, we go beyond our walls to help create a more humane community for pets and the people who love them. As the only open-intake animal shelter in Buncombe County, we're always here for the animals in our community. Position Summary: The Community Sheltering Center (CSC) Supervisor provides direct oversight and support to CSC Counselors while assisting the CSC Manager in the daily operations of the Community Sheltering Center and Owner Support (OS) program. This role ensures consistent service delivery across both programs, supports staff development, and promotes collaboration across departments. The CSC Supervisor oversees training, handles minor escalations, monitors data and recordkeeping, and ensures CSC and OS practices align with Asheville Humane Society’s community-based sheltering model. This includes guiding staff through their Owner Support rotation and supporting their smooth transition back into CSC duties. Additionally, the Supervisor represents CSC and OS in cross-departmental initiatives such as wellness clinics, community events, and outreach, fostering strong organizational and community partnerships. Schedule: The CSC Supervisor is a full-time position (40 hours per week), typically working Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with flexibility as needed. Compensation & Benefits: The annual salary for the Community Sheltering Center Supervisor starts at $40,560. AHS is pleased to offer a competitive and comprehensive benefits package to full-time employees that includes: medical, dental, and vision insurance, a Simple IRA plan with up to 3% company match, 18 days of PTO in the first year, paid holidays, pet prescription discounts, and more! Benefits are available after 60 days of employment. Key Responsibilities: Provide daily support and oversight for CSC Counselors to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery. Serve as the first point of contact for minor escalations, client concerns, and problem-solving within CSC and Owner Support (OS) functions. Support the CSC Manager in coordinating the Owner Support rotation schedule and ensuring smooth staff transitions in and out of rotation months. Ensure staff practices align with organizational policies, procedures, and goals. Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and mentorship to support staff development and strengthen team performance. Lead onboarding and cross-training efforts for new and existing staff in CSC and OS operations. Develop, maintain, and update training materials in collaboration with the CSC Manager. Monitor CSC and OS records for accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across data systems. Assist the CSC Manager with data tracking, reporting, and contract compliance. Maintain organized systems for recordkeeping and information sharing. Ensure facility readiness and adequate supplies for daily operations. Coordinate CSC and OS participation in AHS wellness clinics, community events, and outreach activities. Collaborate with other departments to streamline workflows and enhance community-facing services. Represent CSC and OS in cross-departmental or organizational meetings as needed. Provide coverage for CSC Counselors or OS functions when necessary. Attend regular Community Solutions staff meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum three years of experience in animal welfare, customer service, or related field. Prior supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with MS Office and shelter management software.
