Job Opportunity: Part-Time Community Access Worker (Male)
We are currently seeking a part-time male Community Access Worker to support an individual with a developmental disability. This role primarily involves working in the community to provide companionship, encouragement, and engagement in recreational and leisure activities. Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to) supporting social interactions, attending medical appointments, and helping the individual work toward his Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals.
A non-negotiable aspect of this role is actively supporting the individual with physical fitness and maintaining healthy lifestyle choices as part of his weekly routine. The successful candidate must also be comfortable utilizing public transit and assisting the individual in navigating the transit system safely.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong professional boundaries, effective communication, punctuality, compassion, and a supportive nature. Fluency in English is must, along with the ability to document daily interactions, progress, and challenges accurately and objectively.
About the Individual: The individual is a male in his 50’s who is an avid sports fan and enjoys socializing in the community. He would benefit from a companion who can engage him both mentally and physically and provide consistent support in achieving his goals.
Position Details:
Wage: $24/hour (set by Persons with Developmental Disabilities Program - PDD Alberta)
Schedule: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM (15 hours/week)
Requirements:
Current First Aid/CPR certification
Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
Understanding of positive behavior support and trauma-informed care
General Liability Insurance Coverage and appropriate vehicle insurance coverage if transporting individual in personal vehicle.
Willingness to complete training courses as required by Advocate Community Resources including: Abuse Protocol Training; Positive Behaviour Supports Training; Medication Administration; CPI. Costs for all of these trainings will be covered by the agency except for CPI.
