Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Support clients with developmental disabilities in community based activities; Work with all clients and the team and implement individual and group planning, training and support; Develop program and community activities based on individual’s choices, interests and abilities. Provide client supervision and support, and daily living, social, life and work skills training to promote skill development, community participation and integration. Participate and assist team members in the ongoing development and operation of the program, including developing curriculum and facilitating client workshops, and planning structured client activities. Carry out assignments with client(s) following set protocols and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Diploma in the human services field and at least one-year recent experience working with people who have developmental disabilities or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Responsiveness and sensitivity to the needs of persons with disabilities (in a group or 1:1 setting); strong community living values and good organizational skills are a must.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge/training in behavior approach and experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors, mobility impairments and alternate communications systems.
  • Passion for working with people and positive attitude.
  • Willingness and interest in participating and supporting residents in home and community activities based on individual’s interests and needs.
  • Prior Knowledge and training in use of mechanical lifts and ability to perform lifts and transfers up to 40lbs.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to working effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work in cooperation with families and external support services.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and FOODSAFE certification; Mandt System Training an asset.
  • Class 5 Driver’s license required. Preferred given to applicants with Class 4.
  • Reliable personal vehicle with business insurance and $3,000,000 third-party legal liability insurance required.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating system and MS Word; familiarity with an electronic case management system is preferred.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

HOURS OF WORK: This is a Casual/ on-call position

  • Start and finish times may vary and flexibility with hours of work is required to meet client and program needs as determined by the Program Coordinator. This position is open to applicants of all genders. This position requires union membership.
