COMMUNITY VISION HEALTH PROGRAM MANAGER – FULL TIME

Job Summary: The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) is a
501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the improvement and preservation of sight by
providing services, education, advocacy, and innovation. POB programs address vision health equity in the D.C. Metropolitan community. POB is seeking a full-time Community Vision Health Program Manager that is highly motivated. This position will support the implementation of mobile community eye clinics, adult vision health education, patient navigation, program data collection, and health impact reporting. To ensure success at this position, you should demonstrate expert knowledge of a program manager. Job Location: Capitol Hill, 5-minute walk from Union Station, Hybrid Remote
Work Schedule: Minimum 40 hours per week
Salary: $60,000 – $62,000

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Program Coordinator on strategic projects, including:
  • Growth planning for the community eye clinic program
  • Community outreach and partnership expansion
  • Coordination of volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and training
  • Serve as a public health ambassador for POB at coalitions, roundtables, and health equity task forces
  • Develop and sustain partnerships with senior wellness centers, health departments, churches, and other community-based organizations
  • Identify new opportunities for engagement and service delivery based on community needs
  • Lead the logistical planning and execution of mobile community eye clinics across the DMV
  • Supervise on-site operations including setup, flow management, patient experience, and volunteer coordination
  • Work alongside clinical volunteers (optometrists, ophthalmologists, medical students) to deliver respectful, efficient care
  • Oversee patient navigation for individuals referred for specialty care, including cataract and glaucoma surgery
  • Deliver and adapt brief, culturally relevant educational presentations on:
  • Vision health and common eye conditions
  • Medicare/insurance vision coverage
  • Preventive strategies for chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension)
  • Develop or translate multilingual health materials for older adults, immigrant communities, and uninsured populations
  • Implement and evaluate outreach strategies tailored to under-resourced communities
  • Manage data collection systems for clinics and education programs, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Regularly monitor and analyze data on patient demographics, service utilization, referral outcomes, and unmet needs
  • Create clear and compelling reports for funders, internal leadership, and external partners
  • Use data insights to:
  • Inform program improvements
  • Support funding proposals and impact storytelling
  • Advocate for community-specific health equity interventions
  • Contribute to the development of dashboards or data visualization tools to track clinic volume, follow-up outcomes, and geographic impact
  • Available weekends and evenings for some clinic events
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • US Citizen
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master of Public Health (MPH) or current MPH student highly preferred
  • Valid driver’s license in the metro area (DC, MD, VA)
  • Must have reliable personal transportation
  • Experience in public health, community outreach, healthcare navigation, or health education
  • Familiarity with eyecare is a plus, but not necessary. Training is provided.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, focusing on prioritization and meeting deadlines
  • Quick learner with a problem-solving mindset, eager to contribute as a reliable and resourceful team player
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),
  • Data literacy and experience with other tools for collecting, analyzing, and reporting health data
  • Ability to collaborate within diverse, multi-disciplinary teams, demonstrating a proactive, adaptable, and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, community-level health indicators, and program evaluation methods
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Bilingual strongly preferred
  • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and Saturdays for clinics
  • Comfortable working in a wide range of community settings (churches, senior centers, health fairs, etc.)
  • Maintain professional appearance and attitude
