KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and skills in writing, critical thinking, attention to detail, and research are normally acquired through a post-secondary education plus related on-the-job training and some related experience.
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of human resource administration and including compensation, classification and job description methods, recordkeeping and reporting practices.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies and procedures, collective agreements, and related legislation (e.g., pay equity).

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

Conducts compensation program related research, surveys, and special projects that support the ongoing development of compensation strategy and legislative compliance. Collaborates to administer position management for the corporation to track and account for FTEs/positions in SAP and tracks and maintains foundational data in the system. Supports processes related to job descriptions, job evaluation, and data maintenance.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the administration of annual compensation programs, participating in annual and ad hoc salary surveys, researching and consolidating benchmarking data and market analysis that support the ongoing development of compensation strategy.
  • Analyzes survey results, identifies market trends, and assists with the preparation of market review presentations and ad-hoc reports.
  • Researches and analyzes the impact of policy and legislative changes to compensation policies and programs.
  • In preparation for collective bargaining negotiations, gathers and analyzes compensation data, completes cost modeling, and compiles reports and documentation.
  • Works with service providers and various teams (including SAP, Labour Relations, other HR teams) to implement CBA changes related to compensation.
  • Coordinates job classification and compensation activities and intake forms to ensure compensation activities support organizational goals and legislative compliance.
  • Assists with reconciling information to the system around job analysis, job evaluation and classification practices.
  • Coordinates with HR team members on preparation and finalization of job descriptions, validation of job titles as part of the organization’s job evaluation system. Creates job evaluation results letters and makes system entries, coordinating with Payroll and other HR colleagues.
  • Updates and finalizes job descriptions submitted for housekeeping changes, title changes.
  • Administers processes to enter and update positions appropriately in the position management system. Creates, modifies, and closes positions. Ensures the integrity, accuracy and compliance of the position management system. Maintains the job architecture of position management for all employee groups. Develops, tests, and implements improvements to position management.
  • Assists in system integration of position management to detect errors, duplication and omission of data; verifies that positions are budgeted; ensures positions have been properly approved; provides historical data; prepares reports; and provides position tracking information. Ensures position information is available for budget development, and prepares data reports.
  • Ensures position creations, reclassifications, and closures are accounted for and coordinated with client departments and Finance within guidelines. Establishes and maintains partnerships with other staff in HR and Finance to ensure accurate position reporting. Information includes but is not limited to job codes, job classifications, cost centres, work locations.
  • Activates, maintains, and deactivates information in the job profile builder system, including job profiles, job families, and job competencies.
  • Maintains foundational data organizational structure and job classifications, including but not limited to department and division names and codes, and job classification titles, grades, and codes.
  • Updates information on the HR website.
  • Participates in special projects to ensure effective, efficient, compliant processes and practices are developed and maintained with a continuous improvement lens.
  • Participates in HR cross-functional review of processes and procedures; participates in implementation and rollout of new initiatives.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or required.
