JOB TITLE: Compliance and Sustainability Manager LOCATION: Aylesford, Kent WORKING HOURS: 8am - 4.30pm A bit about the role.. You will be a self-motivated and experienced Compliance and Sustainability Manager who can work effectively within the Research and Development team. In this role, you will work closely with the Heads of department to address technical product compliance and certification across a range of product categories such as Furniture, Electrical, Medical Devices, and Bathroom. For all existing and new products brought to market, you will ensure full compliance with current standards while supporting certification requirements for a global market. You will provide proactive support across the design teams to ensure that compliant products are designed, manufactured, and thoroughly tested to the relevant global ISOs and market-specific standards. In addition, you will drive compliance process development, documentation, implementation, and execution, ensuring best practice is embedded throughout the product lifecycle. As a leader, you will be expected to demonstrate strong decision-making skills and the confidence to guide cross-functional teams through complex compliance challenges. You will combine technical expertise with sound judgement, balancing regulatory, commercial, and operational considerations to provide clear direction. With a proven ability to influence and inspire, you will act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders while fostering collaboration across teams. You will demonstrate a high level of ownership of assigned matters, intellectual curiosity to solve problems, and the ability to make well-founded recommendations based on self-directed research. A commitment to accuracy, resilience under pressure, and a natural ability to mentor and support colleagues will be essential to your success in this role. Some of your key responabilities Develop and drive a robust process for the management of product compliance. Develop and maintain a system and structure for the maintenance of all certification documentation and technical files. Develop strong relationships and coordinate with test and certification partners for the successful execution of compliance test programs. Lead and manage a small team. Develop and maintain appropriate systems to manage product marking, registers and declarations of conformity. Organise and facilitate certification related internal and external audits, working with all business functions to ensure successful outcomes and ongoing compliance with requirements. Identifying upcoming global product and packaging regulatory changes and prepare the business for compliances. To be able to lead new EU, UK, and USA product and packaging compliance issues and changes. Conducting tests and studies into the company’s product compliance. Review manuals, data/safety labelling for products to sign off that they apply to the applicable certification. Work with the supply chain to collect crucial data for suppliers. Manage Chemical compliance. Improve Logistics and Risk Management of the department. To organise CE, CA and FDA marks and testing. To lead and manage retesting strategy To create testing budgets and cost saving strategies To assess compliance based risks and make critical business decisions To support on Packaging, Timber compliance and regulations. Sustainability Develop and implement a sustainability strategy aligned with business objectives, covering products, processes, and supply chain practices. Establish and maintain systems to monitor and report on sustainability metrics, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with global standards and frameworks. Lead sustainability, working with internal teams and external partners to ensure ongoing compliance with environmental regulations. Drive initiatives to reduce environmental impact across materials, packaging, and product lifecycles, including resource efficiency and waste-reduction efforts. Collaborate with design, NPD, and materials teams to integrate sustainability principles into product development, including material selection and responsible sourcing. Evaluate and manage environmental risks within the supply chain, ensuring suppliers meet required sustainability and ethical standards. Lead training and awareness initiatives to embed sustainability best practices across the organisation. Monitor global sustainability legislation and trends, advising the business on upcoming requirements and strategic implications. Work with Marketing and Commercial teams to support accurate sustainability claims and responsible communication. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cost efficiencies, and innovation in sustainable materials, processes, and packaging. Manage a small team of sustainability analysts who delivery data collection and carbon reduction projects. Extensive senior leadership experience within Product Compliance, delivering measurable results and driving strategic action. Deep understanding of product compliance, sustainability requirements, and certification processes, with the ability to interpret technical drawings, test reports, and evolving regulatory standards. Experience working within product categories such as medical devices, lighting, bathroom, or furniture, including managing a portfolio of product certifications. Demonstrated ability to oversee sustainability initiatives, ensuring products meet environmental standards and align with organisational sustainability goals. Skilled in leading, developing, and supporting your teams, including effective delegation, coaching, and day-to-day issue resolution. Strong capability in cross-functional collaboration while maintaining focus on long-term objectives and driving continuous improvement. A decisive and pragmatic problem solver with strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly. Effective project management capabilities, including experience in product testing, process analysis, and managing ambiguity to drive informed decision-making. Ability to build positive relationships with regulatory and certification bodies. Strong IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Outlook and Excel. Well-informed in sustainability trends, environmental regulations, and broader business impacts.
