POSITION SUMMARY:

The Compliance Engineer serves as the primary interface between Wolf Creek Generating Station and the governing bodies, primarily the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). This position involves performing technical reviews of information exchanged with the regulator to ensure Wolf Creek Generating Station’s regulatory compliance is maintained. The self-driven candidate will utilize crucial communication skills through interaction with the regulator and various departments on site. They will conduct in-depth research and develop regulatory positions in response to compliance questions using information in the WCGS Design and Licensing Basis. This role is crucial in maintaining the safety and regulatory compliance of our operations.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Licensing Engineer I: Bachelor of Science in an engineering-related discipline.
  • Licensing Engineer II: BS in an engineering-related discipline and two years of relevant experience.
  • Licensing Staff Engineer: BS in an engineering-related discipline and four years of relevant experience.
  • Licensing SR Engineer: BS in an engineering-related discipline and eight years of relevant experience.
    Note: Candidates without a BS degree in engineering but holding a Nuclear Operations License will be considered as having equivalent engineering experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • This position requires the ability to: read, analyze, and interpret the complex documents; make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to top management, and/or boards of directors.
  • This position requires the ability to: comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory; work with concepts such as limits, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
  • This position requires the ability to: apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases; deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement procedures and programs to meet regulatory requirements and commitments.
  • Evaluate and ensure that WCGS is designed, constructed, operated, maintained, and tested in accordance with WCGS’s licensing bases.
  • Analyze and assess conditions for reportability to the NRC.
  • Perform independent reviews and analyses of regulatory information, reportable events, and NRC documents to determine their impact on WCGS.
  • Develop and propose regulatory positions to management that align with WCGS’s strategic philosophy.
  • Coordinate, prepare, and verify the accuracy of regulatory submittals in accordance with regulations and requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage NRC inspection activities.
  • Facilitate cross-organizational teams to develop corrective actions for resolution of NRC or company-identified issues.
  • Maintain strong, positive working relationships with the regulator and internal teams within WCGS.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations on licensing activities for internal and external audiences.
  • Represent Wolf Creek in industry groups, ensuring the company’s position is heard and considered.
