Our client is seeking an experienced Compliance Officer – Credit Card Marketing & Consumer Protection to join their Compliance Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all advertising and marketing communications relating to the client’s credit card products, primarily targeting customers in Germany, comply with Maltese, EU and German regulatory requirements. What the Role Will Do Marketing & Advertising Compliance (Primary Focus) Review and approve all credit card advertising and marketing materials (digital, print, social media, email, online ads, landing pages) targeting German customers before launch. Ensure communications are fair, clear, and not misleading. Verify compliance with MFSA conduct-of-business rules, German consumer protection law, credit advertising requirements, and other relevant regulations. Review digital marketing strategies for regulatory alignment. Maintain and update internal marketing compliance guidelines, checklists, and approval procedures. Provide practical guidance to marketing, product, and business teams on regulatory requirements and how campaigns should be adjusted where necessary. Monitor approved materials to ensure they are not altered post-approval and that obsolete content is withdrawn promptly. Regulatory Expertise & Advisory Stay current with MFSA conduct-of-business rules, circulars and guidance, relevant EU regulations, and German consumer credit and advertising requirements. Act as the key internal contact on regulatory questions relating to credit card promotions, campaigns, cross-selling, and customer communications. Flag and advise on the impact of new or amended MFSA, EU, or German regulations on marketing practices and product features. Support the review of product terms, pre-contractual information, and customer communications for compliance. General Compliance Support Contribute to compliance risk assessments, monitoring, and testing activities, particularly reviews related to marketing and conduct. Assist in drafting and maintaining compliance policies and procedures relating to credit products and customer communication. Help deliver compliance training to marketing, product, and front-office staff on responsible lending and fair treatment of customers. Support MFSA inspections, thematic reviews, and regulatory reporting, especially on marketing and conduct matters. Participate in new product approval workflows and customer journey reviews. About the Candidate Essential Qualifications & Experience University degree in Law, Finance, Business, Economics, Marketing, or a related field. Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Compliance, Legal, or Regulatory role within banking or regulated services. Ideally, experience within an MFSA-regulated institution or with credit card / consumer credit products. Strong knowledge of: Advertising and marketing rules for credit products. Consumer protection, fair practices, and misleading advertising legislation. Credit disclosure and responsible lending requirements. Solid understanding of digital marketing (online advertising, social media, email, SEO/SEM basics, A/B testing, landing pages) and its interaction with regulation. Excellent command of English, written and spoken. Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail. Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical marketing guidance. Pragmatic and solution-oriented mindset. Desirable Knowledge of German. Professional compliance qualification (ICA, ACAMS, or a local MFSA compliance course). Experience reviewing product terms, pre-contractual information, and customer journeys. Background in conduct risk, customer outcomes, or product governance. Prior exposure to cross-border EU financial services.
