Description

We are looking for a full time Compliance Onboarding Paralegal to join our Risk & Compliance department. This is a new role supporting our Commercial and Corporate teams ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements, through the onboarding process for new and existing clients. This is an office based role with regular client contact. You will be a confident communicator who can establish strong internal and external relationships, who is comfortable challenging as and when required.

Reporting directly to the Director of Risk and Compliance, you will have responsibilities for:

  • Opening new client matters on the firm’s systems
  • Ensuring initial and ongoing compliance with file opening procedures
  • Obtaining and verifying the identity of new clients
  • Analysing the corporate structure of clients to determine Ultimate Beneficial Owner/s
  • Identifying PEPs, SIPs, individuals subject to sanctions and high-risk clients/matters
  • Analysing new clients and matters for potential risks
  • Assisting with the completion of AML and file risk assessments
  • Undertaking source of funds/wealth enquiries and verification
  • Liaising with and escalating matters to the firm’s MLRO/MLCO
  • Carrying out conflicts checks and analysing results to determine whether a legal or commercial conflict exists, liaising with partners and fee-earners and escalating as necessary
  • Updating the conflicts database
  • Monitoring and updating Client Due Diligence for existing clients
  • Maintaining ongoing monitoring records for active clients and matters
  • Following updates of relevant laws, regulations, and other industry developments
  • Providing input into policy and procedure reviews
  • Assisting with ad-hoc administrative compliance tasks

To qualify for this opportunity, you’ll need to have/be the following:

  • Degree educated in Law, or related field
  • Previous compliance experience in a legal environment is desirable
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Overall strength of character with the ability to operate at all levels of the business
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team
  • Some academic exposure to Commercial and/or Corporate transactions is desirable
