JOB SUMMARY

The Component Engineer is responsible for maintaining approved components, usage, cost reduction and lifecycle management. The Component Engineer will provide support for component selection, qualification, and lifecycle management for both off-the-shelf and custom electronic and mechanical components.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Solid understanding of electronic theory and critical component parameters.
  • Proficiency in the use of oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and other standard test equipment.
  • Familiarity with common shop tools (Drills, Saws, Calipers, etc).
  • Familiarity with EDA software (Altium Designer experience preferred)
  • Experience with PLM tools (PTC Windchill experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of electronics compliance certifications (FCC, CE, UL, IEC)
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Soldering and rework skills (asset)
  • Experience with Python (asset)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-year degree in electronics, or similar or 2-year technology diploma plus 1 year electronics experience
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a Component or Electronics Engineering role
    Work Location: Hybrid (In-office 3 days per week, subject to change)

    Salary: $68,000 - $80,000
    This range reflects the minimum and maximum target payable for the base salary of new hires across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside this range and is dependent on various factors.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining the Component Manager database to ensure information for all components is complete, correct, and up to date.
  • Reviewing parts selected for new product designs for availability (immediate and long-term) and cost effectiveness, as well as working with the Manufacturing Engineer to ensure compatibility with manufacturing processes.
  • Minimizing the impact of part obsolescence and unavailability by proactively identifying, testing, and qualifying alternate components.
  • Assisting the manufacturing division with component yield and test issues.
  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with component manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors while ensuring rapid response to, and resolution of issues.
  • Investigating component quality issues, developing an impact mitigation strategy with Manufacturing, and following investigations with manufacturers/vendors through to a conclusion.
  • Performing design verification and in-circuit testing for component substitutions.
  • Working with product management to proactively identify key dates in the lifecycle of products.
  • Develop and maintain standardized test procedures and documentation for component evaluations.
