MONDAY TO FRIDAY, 8:30AM TO 5:30PM (40H PER WEEK)

We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Accountant to join a dynamic team in Montreal. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring adherence to tax regulations and company policies, collaborating closely with human resources to address payroll inquiries, implementing process improvements for enhanced efficiency, and conducting regular audits to maintain accuracy and reliability in all payroll functions.
Our ideal candidate is highly organized, hands-on, and committed to delivering quality work with a “can-do” attitude.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on payroll processing experience for both the US and Canada.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now (WFN) and NetSuite.
  • Experience with expense report reimbursement processing in a T&E platform.
  • Thorough understanding of US and Canadian labor laws and regulations.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll processing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying and addressing payroll-related issues efficiently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and work effectively under pressure and deadlines.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and discretion.
  • Membership in the Canadian Payroll Association is preferred.
  • Proficiency in French for communication with the Quebec government.

Responsibilities

OTHER ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare payroll journal entries and accruals, maintaining project and allocation keys for each pay period and month-end.
  • Reconcile payroll disbursements and bank records, making necessary general ledger entries.
  • Manage the vacation accrual system, validate, and prepare vacation accrual journals.
  • Reconcile liability accounts for payroll and prepare necessary adjustment journals.
  • Prepare and validate yearly deductible training expenses (Quebec).
  • Contribute to special projects and continuous process improvement initiatives.
