Description:

Dedicated to the design and manufacture of resistive and superconducting electromagnets for science, medicine and industry, Tesla Engineering has been designing and building magnet systems since 1973. Our team includes some of the most experienced magnet designers and builders in the world and we are now looking to recruit a Development Scientist to join them in Storrington, West Sussex.

With a relevant background in Physics or Engineering, preferably, but not necessarily, to PhD level, you will be involved in a broad range of tasks including:

  • Designing superconducting and resistive electromagnets and coil systems using tools such as the Opera3D™ and Ansys™ finite element packages, simultaneously considering the electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical aspects of the design.
  • Developing and maintaining bespoke software for the design and test of such magnet systems
  • Developing special-purpose tools using commercial software packages
  • Providing expert advice and troubleshooting analysis to support production.

With the ability to communicate results fluently in written reports and spoken presentations, you should be a determined problem-solver by nature, 100% detail-conscious with a knack for spotting and fixing errors and finding novel solutions within demanding operational constraints. Practical experience of magnets, cryogenics, mechanics, electronics, production methods and collaborative working environments are advantageous. You will need to be able to demonstrate problem solving, critical thinking and reasoning and show evidence of ambition and drive to succeed both personally and for the business.
