QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • High School diploma plus 2 years post-secondary education in computer programming, Information Technology or related field
  • 3 years’ experience in related areas
  • Knowledge of and experience working with SQL, databases, Active Directory, Microsoft products, importing/exporting of data, training, and customer service
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse groups

Preferred

  • 3 years Minnesota School District work experience
  • Experience with Skyward

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Computer Programmer is responsible for applying computer technology to provide solutions in support of the educational mission of ISD742; providing access to applications; overseeing operation of computer system, training and assisting administrative users, maintaining documentation (e.g. computer programs, computer operation procedures, student software systems), solving problems, working with 3rd party tools, providing information and/or providing direction as may be required. Computer applications may include Payroll, Human Resources, Finance and Student software. The Computer programmer is also responsible for analyzing, extracting, auditing, loading and maintaining data used in various databases throughout the District; this includes archiving, year-end processes and reporting data. The Computer Programmer may be responsible for administering updates, merging information and preparing reports for use by administration to make data driven decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Analyzes hardware, software and application software problems
  • Develops and maintains systems and software applications and provides computerized alternatives to manual processes
  • Establishes/maintains links for the purpose of extracting and downloading information
  • Generates and maintains system and program design specifications
  • Prepares a variety of materials (e.g. reports, procedures, user documentation, etc.) providing written reference and/or conveying information
  • Provides necessary analysis for new and/or existing computer applications
  • Responds to inquiries for the purpose of providing information and/or direction
  • Trains system users as needed
  • Analyze data, work processes and situations, and develop effective solutions to system problems
  • Modify/upgrade existing or vendor-supplied systems to meet District needs
  • Making sound independent judgments within policy and procedural guidelines
  • Knowledge and understanding of FERPA and the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act to maintain student privacy and confidentiality
  • Manage and maintain user accounts
  • Other duties as assigned
