JOB DESCRIPTION:

Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is the third largest of Virginia’s 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. Brightpoint Community College is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, nine-month faculty position in Computer Science. Responsibilities will include, teaching a full range of computer science courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and online (synchronous or asynchronous) formats. Full-time responsibilities include teaching the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring). Teaching assignments will require the availability to teach day, evening, and online classes at either campus (Midlothian or Chester).The successful candidate will actively participate in course/program development, assessment, advising students, and serving on division and college committees.

Candidate should be able to teach Computer Science courses ranging from introductory to more advanced topics such as:

  • Introduction to Computer Science and Software Development
  • Object Oriented Programming and Problem Solving
  • Algorithms and Data Structures: Techniques for solving problems efficiently and organizing data.
  • Computer Systems and Architecture: How computers work at a hardware and system level.
  • Human-Computer Interaction: Designing user interfaces and understanding user experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate-level credits in Computer Science. College level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience. Demonstrated ability to effectively use instructional technologies. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills. Willingness to adopt and teach new and emerging technologies and commitment to meeting the needs of and providing instruction to diverse populations. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check.Additional Considerations:
Significant graduate coursework in math, engineering, or information technology. Prior community college teaching experience. Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, distance-learning instruction and/or course development. Experience in teaching a full range of Computer Science and IT Programming courses stated above. Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: Techniques for building systems that can learn and make decisions.
