Description
This role involves the operation and basic maintenance of a custom-built, gantry-style concrete 3D printer, which uses off-the-shelf components and a simple control system. The candidate is preferred to enjoy working with technology, are comfortable with construction materials, and have a mechanical and electrical aptitude. Responsibilities: Printer Operation: Load, start, and monitor printing jobs according to project specifications and safety procedures. Monitor the concrete material delivery system and mixing process to ensure consistent flow. Perform routine checks during printing to identify and resolve minor issues (e.g., nozzle clogs, material flow inconsistencies). Material Handling: Assist in preparing, mixing, and loading specialized concrete/mortar materials for the printer. Ensure the proper cleanup of material delivery hoses, pumps, and the print head after each job. Basic Maintenance: Perform routine pre- and post-operation checks on the printer's mechanical components (gantry movement, motors, guide rails, etc.). Assist in minor troubleshooting and repair of the simple control system and mechanical components under supervision. Keep the printer and surrounding work area clean and organized. Safety & Reporting: Adhere to all job site safety standards and operate the equipment responsibly. Accurately log print jobs, material usage, and any maintenance performed. Requirements ​Basic Qualifications (Skills & Knowledge) Technical Aptitude: Basic familiarity with mechanical systems and understanding of how simple motors or robotics operate. Computer Skills: Basic proficiency in using a computer or tablet for operating a simple control interface (G-code sender, basic printer control software) and basic knowledge of 3d modelling software (CAD) to produce or modify simple designs made by design engineers. Construction/Material Knowledge: Basic understanding of construction materials, particularly concrete or mortar, including mixing, consistency, and curing. Troubleshooting: Ability to observe system function, identify simple problems (e.g., a loose wire, a jam), and communicate them clearly. Electrical awareness: Basic understanding of electrical circuits both DC and AC (single and 3 phase) to be able to troubleshoot and fix simple issues like loose wiring in a safe manner. Work Environment: Comfortable working on a construction or workshop site, which may involve physical labor, lifting, working outdoors, securing heavy loads for crane lifting and securing them in a trailer. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Mindset: Eagerness to learn, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
