We have an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified/experienced Concrete Chemist to join as a core member of the R&D team on a managerial track at Concrete4Change.
Job Title: Concrete Chemist
Location: Nottingham
Remuneration: Competitive package inclusive of salary, share options and annual bonus (dependent on performance)
Start date and end date (approx): This is a permanent position and is available for immediate start. (Flexible on start date based on notice period)

Concrete4Change (C4C) is a R&D company that isdeveloping a ground-breaking technology to utilise and permanently mineraliseCO2 in concrete.
C4C technology won a wide range of awards including the United Nations (UN) most innovative Net-Zero technology Climate Challenge Cup at COP26 in Glasgow, Royal Academy of Engineering and UN SDG. C4C is partly owned by two of the largest concrete manufacturers in the World (Siam Cement Group and Goldbeck GmbH). C4C is running several projects in partnership with the University of Nottingham, University of Sheffield & University of Warwick (total project value of £5 million for 2023-2024).

‍Job Description
In this position you are an self-starter who can develop new technology areas that leverage existing capabilities and expertise, including CO2 adsorption. You will plan, procure and manage the concrete laboratory in line with regulations. You will be responsible for leading a team of civil engineers to utilise your cement and concrete chemistry knowledge for carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) in concrete and evaluation of CCU techniques on the properties and long-term performance of cement-based materials

Responsibilities

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and regularly evaluate the strategy for cement and concrete R&D in line with the goals of the company
  • Review and manage all concrete chemistry projects on a weekly basis, check approach and results. Ensure the projects are inline with their goals and provide critical feedback if there are issues or changes are required.
  • Review all laboratory requirements, purchase requests, write purchasing requests, evaluate requirements and ensure budgets are utilised efficiently.
  • Efficiently utilise external resources, plan and evaluate output. Modify the plans when required.
  • Oversee the development of new projects. Ensure that product development projects align with the company’s overall goals and strategy.
  • Negotiate contracts and maintain relationships with vendors, partners, and service providers.
  • Assess and mitigate technology-related risks such as equipment deliveries affecting work.
  • Assess the scalability of the technology by monitoring its successful application in various concrete production scenarios, from small-scale prototypes to large construction projects.
  • Monitor progress in achieving specific R&D milestones, such as improvements inefficiency, process optimization, or the development of novel materials.
  • Monitor the acquisition and protection of patents and IP related to the carbonation technology to safeguard the company’s innovation.
  • Compare the technology’s performance and market adoption with competitors and similar technologies in the carbon utilisation and construction industries.
