Description:

We are looking for a Confirmations & Counterparty Management Analyst for a 12-month contract position, with possible extensions in Calgary, Alberta. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Post-Secondary education in either business, finance or legal is required
  • Experience in commodity trading/marketing environment
  • Previous exposure and good understanding of commodity trade confirmation processes
  • Strong computer skills & proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in Outlook, Excel & Word
  • Working knowledge with various ETRM platforms (e.g. Egistix, OMS, Allegro Horizon, RightAngle) considered an asset
  • Experience with SAP software considered an asset
  • Experience with Content Server and/or SharePoint considered an asset
  • Experience in data analytics considered an asset
  • Strong analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-starter with aptitude for learning along with demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize demands from multiple stakeholder groups
  • Possess strong work ethic with an ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team and across stakeholder groups
  • Excellence interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively with both internal and external parties
  • Has strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance workload with ad-hoc business request

Responsibilities:

ROLE DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Confirmations & Counterparty Management Analyst. Reporting to the Manager, this position is responsible for managing commodity trade confirmations, counterparty set-up and management, and system information / master data maintenance. This role spans a variety of commodities, ranging from crude oil, natural gas and NGLs to asphalt. This role promotes segregated trade confirmation duties to facilitate Downstream commercial activities of the Trading, Supply & Logistics and Marketing groups at the company.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee New Counterparty Request process for all commodity counterparties; perform customer set-up and ensure systems of record (trading and enterprise resource planning systems) are kept current with appropriate counterparty data.
  • Perform initial Know Your (KYC) screening and maintain ongoing screening, including managing case escalations.
  • Coordinate with Vendor Services to request Vendor set-ups in electronic payment system (SAP).
  • Collaborate on middle office data cleanup of commodity trading and marketing counterparty data for the full suite of ETRM and ERP systems in advance of the ETRM and ERP system upgrade(s); applicable systems include SAP, Solarc Right Angle, Allegro Horizon, Egistix, and OMS.
  • Act as key point of contact for new counterparties as part of a credit card conversion project; perform outreach, due diligence, and onboarding activities as per current Cenovus processes and standards.
  • Assist in developing go-forward processes for onboarding and counterparty management for new commercial counterparties.
  • Manage daily commodity trade confirmations using a variety of energy trading and risk management systems (ETRM) platforms.
  • Ensure trade confirmations are in accordance with commercial contracts, are confirmed within the system of record and are executed by the appropriate signing authority level (as required).
  • Distribute finalized trade confirmations to third parties; review incoming documentation for discrepancies; follow-up with traders, counterparties and brokers as required.
  • Ensure confirmations records retained per corporate policy. Assist with document management filing and organization.
  • Comply with internal controls and management system processes. Report potential incidents and breaches.
  • Collaborate with the following groups on a regular basis: Trading/Marketing, Contracts, Legal, Credit, Accounting, Treasury, Vendor Services & Risk Compliance.
  • Support and respond to internal and external audits.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and enhancement of operational processes and controls.
  • Conduct timely review and process trade confirmations in alignment with business controls as set forth in Market Risk Management Policy, Standard and Procedures.
  • Complete counterparty set-up onboarding and maintain ongoing master data / system information accuracy.
  • Maintain up to date business process narratives, workflows and desk procedures.
  • Report potential incidents and breaches as required.
