As a Legal Counsel working in the operational support team at Pomerleau Construction, you will play a pivotal role in the future success of the business by providing strategic legal counsel in matters of corporate and commercial law. Supporting large-scale building and infrastructure projects – ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion – you will have the opportunity to provide strategic legal advisory and support on day-to-day activities and operations of the company (Pomerleau and its subsidiaries).

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Providing strategic legal advice to business leadership and management teams .

  • Provide legal advice to project teams during construction of projects in Canada and the United States, including management and preparation of claims under project contracts .

  • Provide general legal advice, as required by the companies’ business, in relation to disputes relating to public procurement, the environment, employment, labor, real estate and other areas of law .
  • Manage all aspects of active litigation, arbitrations and administrative proceedings on behalf of businesses, including drafting pleadings, preparing for discovery, conducting discoveries and managing mediations, motions, trials and arbitrations

THIS ROLE COULD BE FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • Hold a doctorate in law or a license in law and be a member of the Law Society of Ontario or another Canadian common law jurisdiction .

  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain a federal personal security clearance at the secret level (10 years of continuous residence in Canada, clean criminal record) .

  • Have 3 to 5 years of experience in private practice or as an in-house lawyer, with experience in construction law, commercial litigation and/or contractual disputes .
  • Possess excellent legal reasoning, sound judgment and the ability to apply these skills to solution-oriented problem solving .
  • Be willing to travel on business to various regions of Canada and the United States as required .
