We are looking for a Senior Adviser, Tax to execute activities related to tax risks, tax accounting and compliance with legal requirements. The position is based in Montreal with standard office hours. Reporting to the Manager – Tax, you will be responsible for:

  • Provide tax risk management services to the Rio Tinto business units
  • Prepare Canadian tax returns, forms and related documents, including in respect to foreign activities of Canadian business units
  • Determine the periodic payment amounts to be made
  • Prepare tax provision and effective tax rate calculation including current and deferred tax and the related entries
  • Research tax issues and recommend alternative tax treatments to reduce the organisation’s tax burden
  • Analyse the impact of legislative changes
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for process improvement around the tax risk management process
  • Assist in tax audits and objection files, as applicable

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and master’s degree in taxation (or CPA Canada’s Basic Tax Program) or in the process of obtaining it
  • Thorough knowledge of tax accounting, tax provision and IFRS standard IAS 12
  • At least 4-5 years of relevant experience in Canadian corporate taxation
  • Experience in firm or industry
  • Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken. Rio Tinto is a global company, and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec.
  • Knowledge of the mining sector and Quebec’s Mining Tax Act (will be advantageous)
  • Must be detail oriented with excellent organizational skills and a proactive mindset
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively in a team environmen
