Some of what you’ll be doing:

As a Construction and Operational Readiness Manager, you will coordinate construction activity in, around, and outside the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). You will maintain operational integrity and ensure successful openings of new facilities and assets at SEA.

  • You will review and process submitted construction activity, collaborate on construction projects at SEA, and monitor upcoming construction activities for risks and impacts to airport operations, tenants, and traveling public.
  • You will conduct site walks with project team staff, tenants, and operators to ensure awareness of construction activity, potential impacts, and mitigations.
  • You will evaluate and deny construction work if it is too impactful to operations or negotiate work arounds and modifications to planned work.
  • You will identify construction activities that will have a substantial impact to passenger operations and facilitate working groups with projects, Port departments, and SEA business partners to develop Construction and Operational Readiness (COR) Plans to mitigate those impacts.
  • You will ensure COR Plans are implemented as developed during the appropriate phases of construction, monitor the work, and manage for contingencies or needed adjustments.
  • You will plan and develop needed activation activities that each stakeholder or employee group needs for opening day operations.
  • You will execute activities to ensure new facilities meet the needs of the operation and verify that staff working in the facility are familiar with and are properly trained on new procedures, equipment, and systems.
  • You will provide post-opening support to users, tenants, and internal departments responsible for day-to-day operations in new facilities.
  • You will participate and provide feedback as a technical and operational reviewer in project development, design charettes, applicable change orders and Request for Information (RFIs) of SEA projects.
  • You will investigate and help resolve construction-related complaints from Aviation Operations, SEA tenants, or other Port departments, and provide guidance and education to project staff on best practices to reduce the chance of construction activity negatively impacting operators and the traveling public.
  • You will support external projects and stakeholders with review of designs, work plans, construction phasing, access, or questions about compliance with Port construction and operational standards, reducing impacts to SEA operations.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have five (5) years of experience with construction management and/or airport/airline operations.

  • Knowledge of Construction – You will have knowledge and understanding of the principles of project management, construction phasing, submittals, RFIs and reviewing construction drawings.
  • Knowledge of ORAT – You will be familiar with ORAT methodologies, principles, and practices for new facility transitions from construction through operation, including activities to ensure staff are familiar with the new facility, procedures, and equipment.
  • Multi-Tasking - Management of multiple concurrent projects and priorities typically involving cooperation, time, and support from internal teams and external partners.
  • Effective Communicator – You have effective verbal, written, and active listening skills. You can write concise, organized, and clear communications to internal and external customers ensuring progress is tracked accurately.
  • Problem Solver – You are proactive and can problem solve integrating information and determine reasonable alternatives. You question provided information to fully understand risks, issues and mitigations.

What else you need to know:

  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies and off shift hours to address any issues that could adversely impact Port operations.
  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion. You may be required to work outside during inclement weather.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
