Description

Construction Cadets are responsible for assisting the construction team in administration, planning, organising, and management of construction projects; ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The role manages documentation and is heavily involved in communications with all stakeholders. This role is designed to expose the cadets to all facets of the business and construction related documentation and processes. Cadets will report to the Assistant Construction Manager for their development and to the respective managers of the division for which they are working in. Key Responsibilities & KPIs People & Safety Maintain safety procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards Assist in the development and implementation of training strategies to ensure team efficiency and team members are equipped with safety knowledge through bi-annual audits. Assist in the investigation of incidents and offer corrective action to prevent recurrence. Maintain a safety first approach to all activities Programming Assist in the strategic development and execution of project planning and scheduling, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and resource capabilities. Review preliminary designs, ensuring they meet company standards and project objectives prior to approval by the GM of Construction. Track and report on key project milestones, ensuring accurate updates are provided to teams and potential delays or issues are communicated with solutions offered. Ensure accuracy and cohesion of scheduling dates between site and program in OSC Design Assist in the development of construction plans to ensure alignment with company project standards as required Review engineering designs to ensure they meet functionality and project specifications and highlight clashes and variation to appropriate team members. Review buildability and construction sequence designs to ensure efficiency and timely delivery. Assess detailed plans for accuracy, compliance with regulations, and alignment with project requirements. Review building specifications and materials meet company standards and procedures. Build & Quality Report on project progress in relation to milestones. Assist in the development of operational plans and schedules to ensure alignment with project goals, timelines and resource allocation. Monitor and assist with resource allocations, ensuring efficient use of labour and materials to maintain project timelines and productivity. Assist with quality assurance processes, ensuring construction meets company standards and industry regulations. Assist with the investigation of critical construction errors, identify root causes, and offer corrective actions to prevent future issues and minimise impact. Assist with maintenance, trade rectifications and repairs ensure quality outcomes are completed to timeframes Financial Execute quote and tender activities in accordance with AR procedures, to obtain favourable pricing and outcomes relevant to project requirements, budget and programs Monitor production budgets, maintain accurate cost estimates and profitability, assist with budget reviews and adjust forecasts based on market trends and alignment with objectives Evaluate overrun costs, ensuring they are justified and assessing their impact on overall project profitability. Monitor and review variation costs, ensuring changes to scope are properly justified and accounted for. Ensure invoices are processed promptly and accurately, in accordance with processes. Fully embrace AR systems compliance including OSC, Databuild, EH, Therefore, Teams and Sharepoint Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Currently enrolled in a tertiary qualification related to building and construction A minimum of 2 years' experience in academic or operational constructional work A valid driver's licence and white card An understanding of construction projects, successfully delivering projects on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards. An understanding of project management principles and methodologies, including the ability to manage budgets, schedules, resources, and risks effectively. Financial acumen, the ability to understand essential information and manage budgets. Knowledge of construction techniques, methods, and processes, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and the efficient management of construction activities. Knowledge of building standards, regulations, and compliance requirements, ensuring all projects meet regulatory obligations and quality expectations. An understanding of workplace health and safety laws, regulations, and best practices, with the ability to implement and monitor safety protocols across construction sites to maintain a safe working environment.
