SUMMARY

The Construction Equipment Sales Representative is responsible for selling new and used equipment to business and consumer customers. In addition, this position is expected to promote services offered by the parts, service, and trucking departments, and represent the company in general.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent of 1-3 years of related experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s Degree or 2-year Technical Degree in a related field.
  • 3-5 years of related experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires an employee to frequently stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls. This position requires an employee to occasionally sit, kneel, bend, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contacts current and prospective customers to discuss products and solicit orders.
  • Meets and/or exceeds sales goals.
  • Travels to customers’ properties or other agreed upon locations to meet with customers in person.
  • Discovers customers’ needs and recommends product solutions.
  • Answers customers’ questions about products, services, and prices.
  • Estimates prices and prepares written sales quotes.
  • Submits sales orders to corporate sales staff for final review and to be ordered from the manufacturer.
  • Negotiates prices and services with customers.
  • Provides customers with product brochures and literature.
  • Obtains customers’ information for credit applications.
  • Coordinates and schedules product demonstrations at the dealership or customers’ properties.
  • Arranges and coordinates scheduling of product deliveries and transfers.
  • Attends delivery of customer equipment purchases.
  • Trains customers and/or their employees on equipment functions and operation.
  • Contacts customers before and after the sale to resolve problems, provide ongoing support, build and maintain relationships, and develop new sales leads.
  • Identifies prospective customers by reviewing customer lists, property maps, participating in relevant organizations, and attending trade shows and industry events.
  • Monitors market conditions, commodity prices, and competitors’ products, pricing, and promotions.
  • Completes related paperwork, including sales quotes, sales orders, credit applications, expense reports, and vehicle fuel and mileage reports.
  • Records sales activity including customer calls and tentative deals.
  • Provides input in development of personal sales goals.
  • Greets all customers at the dealership and offers assistance or directs them to the correct department or person.
  • Attends related sales and product training sessions and meetings.
  • Mentors and trains newly hired sales representatives as needed.
  • Assists with general dealership operations as requested.
