About US

HERAX CONSTRUCTION PTY. LTD., operating under the business name Square Construction Group, is an Adelaide-based construction company established in 2016, delivering residential and commercial building projects across Adelaide. Our work includes custom residential homes, multi-unit developments and commercial fit-out projects. We provide end-to-end construction services from design and budgeting through to documentation and construction, with a strong focus on quality, safety, clear communication and client satisfaction. As our business continues to grow, we are committed to delivering efficient project outcomes and maintaining long-term relationships with our clients.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our growing team. In this role, you will support the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for a diverse range of residential and commercial construction projects across Adelaide. The role involves reviewing project plans and specifications, preparing material and labour cost estimates, obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations, and assisting with tender and project pricing. Working closely with project managers, builders, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients, you will provide reliable cost information to support project planning, tender submissions, budgeting, and effective cost management throughout the construction process.

Key Responsibilities

1. Reviewing architectural drawings, engineering plans, specifications and other project documentation to determine project scope, quantities, materials and associated costs.

2. Preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates and cost plans for residential and commercial construction projects, including custom homes, multi-unit developments and commercial fit-outs.

3. Calculating quantities and estimating costs for materials, labour, subcontractors, plant, equipment and other project-related expenses.

4. Obtaining, reviewing and comparing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to support accurate and competitive project pricing.

5. Liaising with internal Project Managers, Draftspersons and Site Managers, as well as external clients, builders, architects, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors, to clarify project requirements and resolve estimating and pricing issues.

6. Preparing tender submissions, pricing schedules, quotations and supporting cost documentation for management review and tender purposes.

7. Assessing changes to drawings, specifications and project scope and determining their impact on project costs, labour, materials and construction timeframes.

8. Assisting management and project teams with project budgeting, planning, scheduling and resource allocation by providing accurate cost and pricing information.

9. Maintaining and updating estimating databases, supplier pricing, subcontractor rates and other relevant cost information to support consistent and reliable estimates.

10. Monitoring actual project costs against approved estimates and tender pricing, identifying cost variations and providing relevant cost information to management.

11. Preparing cost reports, expenditure statements, tender comparisons and other estimating and cost-control documentation as required throughout the project.

12. Reviewing building plans, relevant building regulations, Australian Standards and applicable codes of practice to ensure estimates reflect project requirements and regulatory obligations.

13. Assessing the cost-effectiveness of materials, construction options and other project-related costs, and identifying opportunities for cost reduction where appropriate.

About You

  • A Diploma or higher qualification in Building, Construction Management and Economics, Quantity Surveying, Building and Construction Estimating or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in construction estimating, preferably within residential and/or commercial construction.
  • Proven experience preparing detailed cost estimates, cost plans, quotations and tender submissions for construction projects
  • Experience reviewing architectural and engineering drawings and specifications and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple estimating tasks and meet tender deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, project managers, architects, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in estimating, costing, spreadsheet or construction management software, with experience using relevant estimating software highly regarded.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team, with a strong commitment to quality and accuracy.
