OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Construction Inspector to join our team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Serves as field inspector on public works construction and maintenance projects. Coordinates daily with contractors, utility companies, and local or state agencies to ensure construction activity meets the Town’s standards and regulatory requirements. Conducts detailed site inspections to confirm work conforms to approved plans, specifications, and code requirements; documents any deviations and reports necessary corrections.
Prepares and maintains daily reports and records of on-site activities; schedules work; handles change orders; and communicates effectively with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders. Interprets blueprints and construction documents; ensures timely and accurate project execution in compliance with state and town regulations.
Assists with road, sidewalk, and permit compliance inspections; addresses and resolves public complaints or concerns. May assist the Town Surveyor and perform independent survey fieldwork as needed. Supports cost control measures and monitors project timelines. Maintains updated knowledge of applicable engineering standards, safety protocols, and construction codes.
QUALIFICATIONS:The skills and knowledge required for this position would generally be acquired through one of the following:
· Graduation from a two-year college with an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
· Four years of experience in construction methods, including at least two years in a senior inspection capacity
· NICET Level II Certification or higher in construction inspection or engineering technologies
Must be familiar with construction methods and testing procedures, possess basic computer literacy, and have the ability to learn specific software used by the Town. Proficiency with MS Excel, databases, and familiarity with CT DOT procedures is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. A valid driver’s license is required. Preferred certifications include: NICET, ACI, Road Master’s Program, and OSHA Confined Space Certification.
