Our primary clients are WisDOT, MnDOT, counties, municipalities, and private developers in Wisconsin. OES has an opening for a Construction Inspector in Northwestern Illinois (District 2) to assist with projects located throughout IDOT District 2. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work on current and future IDOT, Illinois Tollway or other local agency roadway and bridge construction projects. This full-time position will be responsible for construction inspection, materials documentation, field measurements, daily diary entries, and final construction documentation. Start Date: This position is being actively recruited. The start date for this position is March or April of 2026. We will be conducting interviews and making offer decisions in December. Should you receive an offer, we would provide a formal offer letter with a delayed start date of March or April. Key Responsibilities: Perform documentation and inspection duties in accordance with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) contract requirements. Observe, measure, and record construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards. Conduct on-site inspections, including observation of work, repairs, and required testing. Coordinate construction activities among clients, contractors, inspectors, and public agencies to maintain project progress and communication. Monitor work to help safeguard the owner’s interests against defects or deficiencies. Perform quantity computations and assist with construction layout and surveying tasks. Serve as the primary liaison between the contractor and project team. Maintain accurate and organized project records, including daily reports, meeting minutes, approved drawings, and pay requests, using IDOT’s Construction Management System (CMMS). Support project engineers and managers with various project delivery activities as needed. Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Construction Inspector or Technician on transportation or infrastructure projects. Experience with construction inspection for the Illinois Tollway, Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), or other state DOTs preferred. Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills, with proficiency in documentation and reporting. Effective communication skills for interacting with residents, businesses, contractors, and public agencies. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency with standard computer applications and project documentation systems. Ability to travel throughout IDOT District 2 as required. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Preferred Qualifications: Experience using IDOT Construction Management System (CMMS) software. Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Proficiency with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or MicroStation for plan review or field layout support. Established working relationships with IDOT staff and consulting partners. Experience utilizing Microsoft 365 applications for documentation, communication, and project coordination.
