Description

The Construction Labourer provides a variety of construction, maintenance and repair services related to County roads, bridges, culverts, and other infrastructure with a focus on public safety.
This is a contract opportunity expected to go until November 2025.

Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to high school diploma with job related courses in the operation, maintenance and construction of roads.
  • Minimum six months experience in road construction and/or municipal public works maintenance.
  • G license is mandatory, DZ license is preferred.
  • Completion of approved training courses including traffic control, chainsaw operations, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, etc. is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellent safety record.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the position – lift 50 lbs., traverse rough/rocky terrain, stand for long periods, etc.
  • Flexibility in hours of work.
  • Must provide personal CSA approved safety boots.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Provincial and Municipal Acts. Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the Operational policies of the County of Renfrew.
  • Undertakes various tasks using equipment and vehicles according to qualification, work assignment and priorities. Exercises ability to exercise good judgement and initiative when performing and carrying out responsibilities.
  • Provides flagging and traffic control on County construction and maintenance projects.
  • Performs general labourer duties to assist with the reconstruction and repair to roads, culverts and bridges throughout the County. Activities include, but are not limited to, installation ofroadway signage, repair, replace and install fencing, guardrails and guideposts, trim and remove trees and brush adjacent to roadways. May perform maintenance duties in patrol garage and in patrol garage yard when required. Operates small equipment typically used on construction and maintenance projects such as portable pumps, chain saws and compactors.
  • Performs labour related tasks as directed by Supervisor.
  • Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety. Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
