We are seeking a safety-oriented tradesperson with strong carpentry skills, particularly in formwork construction. You will be self-motivated, possess a solid work ethic, and demonstrate an ability to problem-solve in dynamic environments. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of Ausgrid assets, including pits, hatch covers, and substations, with a focus on repair and maintenance of civil components.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Construct, erect, install, and repair structures, fittings, and fixtures related to both network and non-network assets.
  • Safely operate plant and equipment near live electrical conductors and apparatus, adhering to stringent safety protocols.
  • Prepare work sites and equipment for safe and efficient project completion.
  • Assess and prepare job sites, ensuring readiness for scheduled tasks.
  • Lead and supervise contractor teams to achieve safety-first, high-quality outcomes on time.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and seamless project delivery.
  • Interpret and apply technical drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes, and specifications to ensure adherence to quality standards.

To be successful, you will have the following skills & experience:

  • Trade qualifications in Carpentry and experience in a related trade.
  • Class C driver’s licence.
  • Safety Training - CPR, First Aid, Release LV Rescue, HAC/SWMS, Substation Entry, Apply Access Procedures, Environmental Training and Electrical Safety Rules accreditation.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant statutes, regulations and procedures such as safe working practices, Environmental Guidelines, network standards and codes of practice.
  • Asbestos awareness and working with asbestos materials.
  • WH&S WorkCover – General Induction.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of manual handling techniques.
  • Basic level of computer literacy applied to a range of applications relevant to the role.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to meeting the needs of the client.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage multiple tasks, to prioritise work activities, and to work unsupervised.
  • Confined Spaces Training.
  • Experience in managing and leading a range of contractors.
  • Experience in construction and maintenance practices relevant to the electricity distribution industry.
  • Knowledge of modern methods of formwork, reinforced concrete construction and specialised formwork for Ausgrid pits.
  • Understanding of the requirements of public utilities in conjunction with excavations in public streets.
  • Knowledge in excavation and shoring techniques
