Are you an experienced Agent or Senior Agent looking to progress in your career? We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a skilled Construction Manager to join Balfour Beatty Highways on the A1 North to Scotland project. This position will be based in Micklefield, Leeds.
Balfour Beatty Highways maintain, manage, and operate major highway networks across the UK and support local authorities creating communities where people want to live work and play.
We provide high quality asset strategy, management, and planning consultancy services to a wide range of public and private sector customers. We provide specialist, reliable, sustainable, and creative advice for asset management planning and implementation in the UK. We put our customers first and prioritise completing schemes safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
As a Construction Manager, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing construction activities on the project, including team briefings, RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements), workforce management, and subcontractor coordination. You will also oversee site managers, ensuring the project is delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the project team and manage the supply chain to deliver projects to time, cost and quality targets and standards.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and sustainability standards.
  • Ensure that project plans and schedules are robust to optimize resources and timelines and communicate them effectively to the team.
  • Manage subcontractors, monitoring attendance and progress, and providing guidance to achieve contractual targets.
  • Collaborate with internal/external design teams and consultants, supporting project deadlines as required.
  • Assist in people management and resourcing for the project.
  • Actively manage customer relationships, overseeing changes and decisions to align with project expectations.

  • Proven experience in Construction Management within the highways or relevant industry.
  • Effective communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to lead and organize for operational excellence.
  • Effective leadership abilities, with experience in leading teams and influencing others to achieve targets.
  • Financial awareness to meet project targets, with a commitment to improving safety and sustainability.
  • Valid CSCS card.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., APMP) and technical qualifications.
  • Experience and training in Lean Construction principles are a plus.
